This year the Town of Burgaw will host the 16th annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival, where the BBQ Cook-off is one of the main events! Pigs will be cooked by many local contestants, along with champion cookers from across North Carolina, where they will compete to be named the 16th Annual NC Blueberry Festival Barbecue Champs. Contestants are judged on the taste of their barbecue and the sauce it is served with. The pigs may be cooked with wood, charcoal, or gas. Cooking begins on the Thursday before the festival, June 13th, and judging will begin on Friday, June 14th at 5:00pm. After the cook-off ends, the meat is then served at the festival as BBQ sandwiches or by the pound. Proceeds are used to provide academic scholarships to deserving, college-bound seniors in blueberry producing counties.
